The Wild Gardenia (Gardenia ternifolia) is an evergreen tree or shrub in the Rubiaceae family of coffee plants. It is also known as the Large-Leaved Transvaal Gardenia.

It is native to tropical and sub-tropical regions of eastern Africa.
It grows to 1-15 metres (3-49 feet) tall.
Its leaves are 5-50 centimetres (2-19 inches) long and 3-25 centimetres (1-10 inches) wide.
The flowers are white or pale yellow and a tubular based corolla with 5-12 petals from 5-12 centimetres (2-5 inches) in diameter.
The Wild Gardenia blooms from mid-spring to mid-summer.
