The Common Onion (Allium cepa) is is a flowering biennial bulb in the Amaryllidaceae family of garlic, leeks, and chives.

It grows to a height of 15-45 centimetres (6-18 inches).
It has fleshy, hollow leaves. The heads are a globular umbrel of white flowers. The seeds are black and triangular.
