The Purple Bergenia (Bergenia purpurascens) is a flowering rhizomatous evergreen perennial plant in the Saxifragaceae family. It is also known as Elephant-Eared Saxifrage, Elephant’s Ears, and Pigsqueak.
It is native to Central Asia, from Afghanistan to China.
The Purple Bergenia grows to 30-40 centimetres (12-16 inches) tall.
Its leathery, oval-shaped leaves are 6-35 centimetres (4-15 inches) long. The stems are red to pinkish-red. It has purple clump-forming flowers.
It blooms in spring.
