The Saltmarsh Arrowgrass grows to 20-75 centimetres (8-30 inches) tall.

Its leaves are fleshy and the fruit is oval-shaped.

Its flowers, in a long spike, are greenish-white with three petals edged with purple.

It blooms from May to August in the Northern Hemisphere.
