Panama Hat Plant (Carludovica palmata) is an evergreen perennial flowering plant in the Cyclanthaceae family. It is also known as the Toquilla Palm.

The Panama Hat Plant is a monocot, and not a true palm.

It is native from countries in Central America to Bolivia.

It grows to 3-4 metres (10-13) tall. The stems are used to make Panama hats.

It has soft, flexible, green leaves in a fan-shape. They are used to make brooms.

The female flowers have large stigmas. The male plants have lots of pollen.

The fruit is red.

Photographed in the Botanical Garden Hothouse, Paris, November 2021.
