The Sunflower (Helianthus annuluus) is a tall, flowering plant in the Asteraceae family.

It grows to about 3 metres (10 feet) tall.
The Sunflower has a single large flower head on top of an unbranched, thick, hairy stem. The flower head contains many small flowers (florets) with five petals. The outer ray flowers are yellow, but can also be red or orange.
The flowers in the centre, arranged spirally, are called disc flowers, which mature into fruit (sunflower seeds). The seeds are beige with black shell casings.
The Sunflower blooms in summer.
Photographed in Paris, France, July 2020 and 2021.
