The Bay Tree (Laurus nobilis) is a flowering evergreen tree or shrub in the Lauraceae family of laural trees. It is also known as the Bay Laurel, Sweet Bay, and Grecian Laurel.

It is native to the Mediterranean region.
It grows to 7-18 metres (23-59 feet) tall.
It has smooth green leaves about 6-12 centimetres (2-5 inches) long.
The small star-shaped flowers are pale yellow-green, about one centimetre (half an inch) in diameter, and appear in pairs.
Its fruit is a small, shiny black drupe about one centimetre (half an inch) long, containing only one seed.
It blooms in spring.
