The Carnation (Dianthus caryophyllus) is a flowering, herbaceous, perennial plant in the Caryophyllaceae family. It is also known as the Clove Pink.

The wild carnation is found in the Mediterranean region, in Spain, Italy, Croatia, Albania, Greece, and Turkey.
It grows up to 80 centimetres (31 inches) tall.
The leaves are greyish-green and thin, up to 15 centimetres (6 inches) long.
The fringed flowers are single or up to five together. They are about 3-5 centimetres (1-2 inches) in diameter.
The original colour is pinkish-purple, although there are cultivars in a range of colours, such as red, white, yellow, blue, and green.
