The Green Helleborus (Helleborus viridis occidentalis) is a flowering semi-evergreen, perennial plant in the Ranunculaceae family. It is also known as Bear’s Foot and Boar’s Foot.

It is found in central and western Europe, including southern England.

The Green Helleborus grows to about 60 centimetres (24 inches) tall and 30 centimetres (12 inches) wide.

The flowers have five large petal-like oval sepals with pointed tips, surrounding a ring of 7-12 small, cup-like nectaries which are actually petals.

It has pale-green flowers that bloom in spring – from February to April in the Northern Hemisphere.

Photographed in Paris, France, February 2023.
