Ruby Chinese Fringe Flower

The Ruby Chinese Fringe Flower (Loropetalum chinense) is a flowering, evergreen plant in the Hamamelidaceae family of Witch Hazels. It is also known as the Strap Flower.

It originated in Asia.

It grows to 2-3 metres (6-10 feet) tall.

The leaves vary from bronze-red when young to olive-green when mature. They are about 2.5-5 centimetres (1-2 inches) long and 2.5 centimetres (1 inch) wide.

The pink ribbon-like flowers are clustered and prolific, and are up to 10 centimetres (4 inches) long.

The Ruby Chinese Fringe Flower blooms at the end of winter, from February to March in the Northern Hemisphere.

Photographed at the Paris Botanical Garden, France, February 2023.
