Black Caraway

The Black Caraway (Carum bulbocastanum) is a tuberous, perennial plant in the Apiaceae family of carrot plants. It is also known as Black Cumin, Black Jeera, Kashmiri Jeera, Pignut or Earth-nut.

It is native to the northwest Himalayas in Asia.

Its leaves are finely dissected.

The flowers are small and white on compound umbrels.

Caraway seeds are the small fruit, and also the spice, and are dark-brown to black.

The Black Caraway blooms in early spring.

Photographed in Paris, France, April 2023.
