Peppermint

Peppermint (Mentha x  piperita) is a hybrid, rhizomatous, herbaceous, perennial species of mint in the Lamiaceae family. It is a hybrid between watermint and spearmint.

It is native to Europe and the Middle East.

It is a spreading plant that grows to 30-90 centimetres (12-35 inches) tall.

It has smooth stems. The dark-green leaves are 4-9 centimetres (1-3 inches) long and 1-4 centimetres (half to one-and-a-half inches) wide. They have reddish veins.

The flowers are small and purple, forming thick, blunt spikes.

The Peppermint blooms from mid-summer to late summer.

Photographed in Paris, France, April 2023.
