Common Hawthorn
The Common Hawthorn (Crataegus monogyna) is a flowering plant in the Rosaceae family. It is also known as One-Seed Hawthorn, Single-Seeded Hawthorn, Mayblossom, and Maythorn.

It is native to Europe, north-west Africa, and west Asia.
It is a shrub or small tree, growing to about 10 metres (33 feet) tall. Its bark is brown with vertical orange cracks. Young stems have sharp thorns about 1 centimetre (half an inch) long.
Its leaves are long, about 2-4 centimetres (about an inch) and deeply lobed. The upper surface is dark-green and the under surface is paler.
The flowers are clustered together in groups of about 5-25. Each flower is about 1 centimetre (half an inch) in diameter with five white petals.
The Common Hawthorn blooms in late spring – May to early June in the Northern Hemisphere.
