Creeping Phlox ‘Scarlet Flame’

The Creeping Phlox ‘Scarlet Flame’ (Phlox subulata ‘Scarlet Flame’) is an evergreen, perennial, flowering plant in the Polemoniaceae family. It is also known as Moss Pink, Moss Phlox, and Mountain Phlox.

It is native to eastern and central United States of America. It prefers rocky ledges, slopes, and clearings and is good for borders and groundcover.

It grows to about 13 centimetres (5 inches) high and spreads like a mat or cushion to 50 centimetres (20 inches) wide.

It has hairy, needle-shaped leaves.

The small, five-petaled flowers can be rose, mauve, blue, white, or pink.

The Creeping Phlox ‘Scarlet Flame’ blooms in spring to early summer.

Photographed in the Paris Botanical Garden, April 2024.
