Cymbidium Orchid

The Cymbidium Orchid is a hybrid, evergreen, perennial, flowering plant in the Orchidaceae family. It is also known as a Boat Orchid.

The photographed orchid is a hybrid between the Firetail Speedway ‘Danica’ x Gwen Thomas ‘Golden Fire.’

It is native to tropical and sub-tropical regions of Asia and Australia.

It grows from 50-100 centimetres (20-39 inches) tall and 60-80 centimetres (24-31 inches) wide.

It is epiphytic. There are 3-12 leaves, and the flower spikes are on an unbranched stem.

It has bright yellow flower spikes with a dark red lip, and fleshy, long green leaves. The flower has three lobes, with erect side lobes.

It blooms for up to 3 months during winter and spring, from May to September in Australia.

Photographed in Adelaide, Australia, June 2023.
