Egg Fruit

The Egg Fruit (Pouteria campechiana) is a tropical, flowering, evergreen tree in the Sapotaceae family. It is also known as Cupcake Fruit, Canistel, and Khmer Peach.

It is native to southern Mexico, Belize, Guatemala, and El Salvador, and cultivated in other tropical countries.

The Egg Fruit Tree grows up to 10 metres (33 feet) high.

The fruit, called Egg Fruit or Yellow Sapote, is orange-yellow on the outside and orange-yellow inside. It is 7 centimetres (3 inches) long. The skin of the fruit is often covered in rust-brown patches.

The taste is sweet like a blend of pumpkin and mango, with a dry texture like a hard-boiled egg yolk. The shape and size are variable, but range from globular to ovate.

The fruit contains 1-6 large seeds.

The Egg Fruit appears from autumn to winter.
